Logging in with a one-time code

Dugout uses a typed one-time code instead of a password or magic link. Here's how it works and why.

Dugout doesn't use passwords, and it doesn't use clickable "magic link" emails either. Instead, every login works the same way:

  1. Enter your email address.
  2. We send you a short code.
  3. Type that code in to confirm it's you.

Why not a magic link? Some email apps and security scanners automatically open links in incoming emails to check they're safe. This can use up a one-time link before you've even seen the email, leaving you with a confusing "expired" error when you click it yourself moments later. A typed code can't be used by anything except you typing it in, so this simply can't happen.

You can start a login two ways:

  • dugoutapp.com/auth: the general entry point, with no club branding. This is also where you'll land the very first time you sign up.
  • Your club's own page (a URL your admin can share directly, e.g. from a team WhatsApp group): the same login form, shown with your club's crest and colour.

Either way, once you've entered your code you'll land in the right place: straight into your club if you only belong to one, or a club switcher if you belong to more than one.
